Important reward for Andrea Piccini: Sansepolcro, his hometown, has assigned to the 34 year old race car driver the award of "Sportsman of the Year" for the great results achieved in 2012: the victory in Spa 24 Hours on Audi R8 LMS Ultra together with Rene Rast and Frank Stippler. This prize of course virtually includes the GT1 team champions world title achieved the years before with Hexis Aston Martin and Christian Hohenadel. The delivery took place on the evening of March 1 during the Sports Gala, an event organized by the local agency with Saturn Communications. In the millennium foundation of the city, Sansepolcro has sought to dedicate a show to those who gave luster to it in the field of sports, including together with those who are in the business even those who in the past has become the protagonist of success or left an important mark. Andrea Piccini went up on stage twice: first with the authors of the other important results obtained in the past year and then, preceded by a clip summary of his career, to receive the trophy from the hands of the mayor, Daniela Frullani, which congratulated him on being able last July to raise the Italian flag on the belgian race podium and the prestige that has succeeded in giving to Sansepolcro. "It made me very happy that my city has remembered me, even before he gave me a trophy that will remain among the fondest memories – said Andrea – because the applause and affection of your people do not have a price at which they can be compared. I also thank the council that, as was the case at the time with my brother Giacomo, when he won the Italian title of the GT3 in 2011 had given me another award for the world in the GT1." Andrea had also some words about his relationship with Sansepolcro: "My work and commitments that lead me always to stay away from home, I might very well choose to live elsewhere, but Sansepolcro is in my heart and I never thought of leaving, the proof is that I decided to stay and live in the city now that I'm married." And within a week from the Gala, Andrea Piccini back on track to try again the BMW Z4 GT3, tested for the first time fifteen days ago in Jerez de la Frontera: 7 and 8 of March the tuscany driver will be involved at Vallelunga track during some tests with belgian team Marc VDS.
