For a few minutes around half of the race, the track “Enzo e Dino Ferrari” in Imola has rocked the dream of an exceptional and unprecedented double win for Piccini brother, Andrea and Giacomo both winners in the same event but with different cars different categories. But unfortunately Giacomo had to raise the white flag while Andrea has repeated his triumph at the Nurburgring in the GT Open with another personal affirmation in the second round of the European Le Mans Series. Andrea Piccini, who started with the best qualifying time in the GTC class, replaced Jan Magnussen in the Formula Racing team and shared the driving with Johnny Laursen and Mikkel Mac.
“This is a win with a particular value for me – commented Andrea Piccini – just because I have not won in Imola before. I replaced Magnussen driving a car well-placed in the standings, I wanted to help Laursen and Mac to get the best result possible. Well, we got the best one and I want to congratulate with my team mates who did a fantastic job as well as the team with the choice of strategy. This is another win after the one collected in Nurburgring two weekes ago: I am grateful to Amato Ferrari that has given me these opportunities. He gave me confidence and I think, with no doubt, to have paid off.“
