BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS achieved all their pre-race targets at the Nürburgring, qualifying strongly for the 24 hour race. The #25 BMW Z4 GT3, driven by Maxime Martin, was the top BMW on the grid in seventh and Richard Göransson steered the #26 to 11th. Remarkably, qualifying remained dry throughout Saturday, meaning that times fell throughout the day. Having achieved the top objective of making the Top-40 qualifying, the two cars then met their targets with grid position as well. The Top 40 format, where the fastest 40 cars in the field are released at ten second intervals to attack the track without the usual traffic, provides one final small challenge before the big race on Sunday. Despite the small gaps between cars at release, both Göransson and Martin met traffic, which hampered progress slightly. However, both were able to comfortably qualify in the top 20 and therefore have a good chance of avoiding drama in the first few laps. The race begins at 5pm local time on Sunday, with live coverage on 24h-rennen.de and English language commentary on radiolemans.com.
